Literacy is falling in the United States: here's how to help



It's 2023 - Don't we assume everyone in our developed country can read?


Well, apparently only 79% can. And only 44% read better than a 6th grader. These are 2019 stats, and the pandemic has only made things worse.


This is bad for people's right to read/access information AND the economy. Low literacy levels actually cost the USA over 2 trillion dollars annually. Yikes.

Here are a few ways you

can help:

  • support local libraries

  • support public schools

  • advocate for literacy programs in your area

  • elect politicians who care about literacy

  • read with your kids
