Relaxation is a key part of creative innovation

Ever notice how often you think of your best ideas in the shower? Turns out, it's no coincidence.

Relaxing (like soaking in a hot shower) enhances creativity by reducing norepinephrine in your brain. (Heilman, 2016)

Norepinephrine is a hormone associated with long-term memory. Reducing norepinephrine helps your brain forget what it already knows, making developing new and innovative ideas easier.

How can you relax?

Here are a few recommendations from Harvard Business Review for relaxing activities to enhance creativity:

  • Spend time in nature

  • Meditate

  • Go for a walk

  • Connect with people

So next time you have a creative block, try something relaxing to get the ideas flowing.
