Writer's block is normal, but you can overcome it

If you work creatively, you're probably familiar with the dreaded "writer's block" or the inability to continue your work for no apparent reason.

Research shows this phenomenon occurs often (and dates back pretty far in history) and is caused by the following: apathy, anger, anxiety, and issues with others.

At its core, most writer's block is temporary overwhelm. It's usually related to uncertainty that your work will be valuable or meet expectations.

How can you beat it?

The American Psych Association recommends these strategies to overcome writer's block:

  • set a writing schedule

  • don't skip the "prep"

  • take a break

  • just start writing (!)

  • create the environment

  • know it's okay to fail

  • set goals & rewards

  • make it personal

Happy writing!
