Writing Assessment: Was the French Revolution Successful?
Your students will reflect on the goals of the French Revolution and whether or not they were achieved. This is a full lesson that will occupy two class days.
- Day 1: Source analysis and planning
- Day 2: Written response
Includes:
- Lesson Plan in Editable Word Format (includes Common Core, NSCC, and NYS content standards alignment. You can substitute your state standard in place of these.)
- Slides Presentation in Editable PowerPoint Format
- Classwork Document in Editable Word Format (Do Now, Source Analysis Graphic Organizer, Written Assessment Outline and Extensions for Differentiation)
Important Notes:
- Students will complete their writing assessments on a separate piece of paper. You should determine the length and other requirements based on your students.
- Documents are identified but not included. You will be able to locate them all easily. However, for copyright issues, I cannot simply copy and paste them into the document you are purchasing. You can use the ones I suggest below and in the lesson or replace with whichever French Revolution sources you like best.
Documents:
- Excerpt regarding civil and property rights from the Napoleonic Code
- Excerpt from Napoleon's Account of the Internal Situation of France (December 31, 1804)
- Excerpt from "Helen Williams and the French Revolution" (1793), accessible for free online from the 2007 New York State Global Regents
- Map showing the expansion of Napoleon's empire from 1803-1815.

Custom materials are ghostwritten so you can put your name on them for use in your classroom. They will be unbranded and logo free. As long as you don’t try to sell my work as your own, your secret is safe with me.
Custom orders can include anything you need for your classroom. I’ll share them only with you; you’ll never see them online or in another teacher’s portfolio.
